Annie Potter

Annie Levolia Potter was born on February 14, 1942, in Charlotte Court House, Virginia, to Joseph and Alma Henry. She was educated in the schools of Charlotte County, Virginia, and after graduation moved to Washington, DC with her sister, Alberta, where they began the next chapter of their lives. On a warm summer morning in 1964, while standing at a bus stop, Annie met a tall, handsome gentleman from the U.S. Virgin Islands, Leroy, who would become the love of her life. What began with a bus ride and a spontaneous kiss soon blossomed into a loving relationship. Together they shared 33 wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with three sons and two daughters. With the encouragement of her husband, Annie attended Howard University, where she studied nursing. Shortly thereafter, she and her husband embraced the joy and responsibility of building a family, which remained most precious to them both. After the birth of her third child and determined to complete her education, Annie returned to school and earned her nursing degree from Prince George’s Community College. She began her nursing career working with terminally ill children before discovering her true calling in caring for the elderly. Annie was a cherished member of the Riverbend Estates Neighborhood Association and maintained close relationships with her neighbors before moving in with her eldest daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Tony, three years ago. She faithfully attended Fort Foote Baptist Church, where she enjoyed her Sunday school class, fellowship activities, and service as a member of the Nurse Ministry. Annie found happiness in sewing, gardening, watching judge shows, and taking drives in her car. She also shared a special bond with her sister, Alberta; the two spoke often throughout the day and night, keeping up with current events and even trying to solve the crimes reported on the news. Annie was a devoted wife to her late husband and a beloved mother whose memory will be cherished by her five children: Jeffrey Potter of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Lisa Henson (Tony) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; Keith Potter of Richardson, Texas; Keisha Potter of Windsor Mill, Maryland; and Steven Potter (Aisha) of Accokeek, Maryland. She also leaves to cherish her memory her grandchildren, Kwesi Potter, Kai Potter, Xavier Potter, Sean Potter, Savannah Henson, Lindsey Henson, and Antonio Henson, Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Lynix Henson and Avery Henson; her sister, Alberta Barksdale (Willie); her brother-in-law, Rhudel Potter; her nieces, Celeste Blyden (David), Celma George, Devany Nicholls, Khalilah Blyden, and Sakeena Rawlins; her nephews, Claude Jackson, Michael Barksdale, Willie Tate, Keven George, Kevis George, Kirschan Blyden, and David Blyden III; a host of cousins and other relatives; and her special friends, Gracie Kenon, Bernice Dalton, Karen Robertson, and Joan Bowman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Potter, her sister Thelma Henry, and her brother Joseph Henry, Jr. The family extends special appreciation to her son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Tony Henson and Aisha Potter, whose loving care and devotion blessed Annie’s life in a profound way. They cared for her as a second mother, and she loved them dearly as her own. On June 18, 2026, the Lord called Annie home to glory. She now rests in His presence, reunited with the love of her life, Leroy. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
