Annie Ruth Murphy

Annie Ruth Magwood-Murphy was born on September 8th, 1935 in Durham County, North Carolina to the late Jessie and Pearly Long. From this union they had three children, May Arthea, Jessie, and Annie who was the youngest. On Thursday, May 15th 2025, Annie departed this earthly life and gain her Heavenly Wings. Annie was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System where she attended, Frederick Douglas Senior High School. She took up sewing courses in which she Excel in and enjoyed…She taught her daughters how to sew. Her daughter Deborah perfected the art of sewing whereas Annie modeled her Outfits on the “Ophra Winfrey Show – People are Talking.” On April 16, 1951. Annie at the age of 16, married Marshall Magwood Sr. from this union, they had six children. The eldest was Marshall Jr., then Patricia, Glen, Deborah, Rhonda, and Marcus who is deceased. Later she remarried to William Murphy who is now deceased. Annie worked for the General Electric Company, Columbia, MD. As an assembly line worker. She was a Real Estate Agent for Century 21, Randallstown, MD. She also was Life Insurance Agent for American General Corporation for the State of Maryland. She retired at Walmart Towson Md, where she was in-charge of the Children and Infant Department. Annie joined 1st Baptist Church East Baltimore and was baptize at an early age. Later she joined St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She loved to sing all kinds of songs, especially spirituals. She had a beautiful voice, especially when she sings spiritual songs. Annie was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and a faithful servant. She was not only a true servant of God, Annie always had dear friends and many acquaintances. Back in her days, she loved dancing, travel, shopping, visiting friends, and spending time with family. She was thrilled to go on a cruise in the Bahamas. Annie was an amazing woman, was kind and quite witty. She loved comedy and like to tell us jokes. She also gave us words of wisdom. Annie Ruth Murphy, was preceded in death by her sister May Aretha Jackson, her son Markus Magwood Sr., her grandsons Corell McQueen, Marshall Magwood III, and her granddaughter Markita Magwood. She leaves to cherish her memory: Her sisters, Jessie Baker (Donnell), Sharon Nero (William). Susan Jetter (Edward); her children Marshall Magwood Jr, Patricia Magwood-Gambrill (Ernest), Glen Magwood Sr. (Elizabeth), Deborah Bennett (Paris), and Rhonda Curbeam (Willie); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grands, great grands, great-great grands and friends.
