Homegoing Celebration For Annie Lee Monroe Tuesday, October 2, 2012 – 11:00 Sunrise Sunset April 28, 1921 September 25, 2012 Kelsey Temple Church of God In Christ 1435 Bishop Samuel Kelsey Way Washington, D.C. 20011 Elder Fred Morris – Pastor Obituary Annie Lee Monroe was born on April 28, 1921, in Rockingham, N.C. to the late Leana Ingram and Moses Smith. Ann, as she was affectionately called, was a woman with a warm heart. She received salvation at an early age. In 1939 after graduating from high school, Ann was united in holy matrimony to Hezikiah Monroe. From this union was born one daughter, Annie Mae Monroe, who various family members referred to by a number of nicknames—Precious, Pumpkin, Possum and Pidgeon. Annie Lee moved to Washington, D.C. to find work. Her first employer in D.C. was the Manhattan Laundry. She began working for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Treasury Department in 1954 and continued there until her retirement in 1988. During her tenure at the Bureau, she received many awards for outstanding service. Ann loved to travel and enjoyed going to stage shows. She traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad, including to Paris, London, Spain and Africa. Her favorite destination was New York City. God promised that in our distress He will not leave us comfortless. May the Holy Spirit come and grant us strength and peace. We accept, with humble and contrite hearts, the passing of our loved one, Annie Lee Monroe. God loaned her to us many years ago, and now He has claimed what is legally His. Annie Lee leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Annie Mae; one granddaughter, Courtney, who she loved very, very, much; two grandsons, Courtland and Treylan, who she loved to hear say “Hi Great Grandma;” one sister, Marian Grice; two brothers, Cornelius (Jeanne) and Edward Lee (Sandra); and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Directions: Make a right onto “Believeth Boulevard.” Keep Straight and go through the green light, which is Jesus Christ. From there, you must turn onto the “Bridge of Faith,” which is over troubled water. When you get off the bridge, make a right turn and keep straight. You are on the “King’s Highway” heaven-bound. Keep going three miles: One for the Father, One for The Son, and One for the Holy Ghost. Then exit off onto “Grace Boulevard.” From there, make a right turn on “Gospel Lane.” Keep Straight and then make another right on “Prayer Boulevard.” As you go on your way, yield not to the traffic on “Temptation Avenue.” Also, avoid Sin Street because it is a dead end. Pass up “Envy Drive,” and “Have Avenue.”Also, pass “Hypocrisy Street,” “Gossiping Lane,” and “Backbiting Boulevard.” But you have to go down “Long-suffering Lane,” “Persecution Boulevard,” and “Trials and Tribulations Avenue.” But that’s all right, because VICTORY BOULEVARD Is straight ahead!
