Sarah I Baker

SARAH IRENE KELLY BAKER was born on September 7, 1935, in Howard County, Maryland to the late Hester Lee Isabelle Kelly Vaughan. God summoned her home on Friday, November 3, 2023. Sarah attended Howard County Public Schools where she received her high school diploma. Sarah worked many jobs, most notably she worked at the Days Inn Hotel chain. She worked until she was 80 years old being a housekeeper and working in the laundry. She was a dedicated worker and was the favorite coworker of everyone. Her family would laugh when it snowed, because her boss would tell her to book a room so that she could not say that she couldn’t get to work. Sarah accepted God at an early age and was always in church. In 1985 she joined St. Paul United Methodist Church now St. Paul Praise and Worship Center, where she was an Altar Guild Steward. Sarah was so happy when St. Paul became a charge with Elderslie-St. Andrews United Methodist Church. She enjoyed getting to know the members of that church and she considered them family just as she did the members of St. Paul. She especially loved “her boys”, Nicholad Umeozulu and Jahki Coby. When COVID shut the church down, she really missed the church, and when the church was reopened, she came back doing even more that she did before the church closed. She was one of the greeters of the church, she took attendance. She ensured that everyone followed the rules of the worship service. She even joined the United Women in Faith and completed many of our mission projects. She had the most fun in Wednesday night bible study, she enjoyed the time she spent with her fellow bible scholars. Everyone that knew Sarah loved her, most people didn’t even know her name, they called her either “Mommie” or “Grandma” or “Gramps”. She loved God, Family and Fun, in that order. She enjoyed watching football (the Ravens of course), and WWE wrestling. Her favorite channel was the Game Show Network. She loved travelling and having fun. Sarah’s favorite two sayings were, “Only what you do for God matters”, and “I am storing up my treasures in heaven”. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Celia Kelly, and Geraldine Brown, and her one and only son Irving Nelson Eldridge, Jr. Sarah leaves to mourn and cherish her memory: four daughters, Katherine Lewis, Marla Jennings (Elbert “Van”), Rhonda Eldridge and Stephanie Nichols; stepson, Charles Eldridge; stepdaughter, Theresa Montague; ten grandchildren, Phillip Pridgen, Davon Jackson, Saiquan Branch, Sharon Branch, Tavian Nichols, Laurence Lewis, Travon Nichols, Messiah Johnson, Aaron Lewis, Dasha Jennings; nineteen great-grandkids; one cousin, Eugenia “Bonnie” Davis. She had her hanging partner, Ms. Charlotte Harried; many beloved nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Sarah was truly loved by everyone.
