Patricia Ann Gainor

Patricia Ann (Hopkins) Gainor, 79, passed away on June 19, 2024. Tracey, her beloved daughter, was with her as she peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord. Born in Morganton, NC on March 31, 1945, Patricia grew up in Norwalk, CT, where she graduated from Brien McMahon High School in 1963. While working as a bank teller, Patricia married Ernest Thurston Gainor on March 23,1968 in Norwalk, CT. They had two children who they adored - Ernest Thurston Gainor, II (1970) and Tracey Renee Gainor (1974). Police brutality claimed their son's life on January 1, 1990. Tracey is their surviving child. Though divorced, Patricia and Ernie maintained their friendship over the years. Although Tracey and Ian - her "big baby brother" - have different mothers, Patricia and Ian always embraced each other as family. Tracey's brother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew loved Patricia as "Grandma Pat." Patricia ("Tricia" to her family) was a woman of many passions, characterized by her quiet, private, and introspective nature. She found joy in creative pursuits such as quilting, journaling and cardmaking. She loved Pepsi, hummingbirds and the Delfonics. An avid football fan, Patricia's loyalty lay with the Baltimore Ravens, though she also supported the Pittsburgh Steelers (Tracey's team) and the Commanders (Ian's team) when they were not playing the Ravens. Beloved friends from Norwalk United Methodist Church, Rockland United Methodist Church and St John Baptist Church were always close to Patricia's heart. She particularly loved her Wisdom Seekers Cluster, Golden Hearts, Crafters for a Cause and her Sunday school class at St John. Patricia is survived by her daughter, Tracey R. Gainor of Columbia; sisters, Jackie Farrison of North Carolina, and Beverly L. Dixon of Norwalk, CT; nephews, William W.A. Harris of NC, Tyler E. Dixon of CT, and Christopher B. Dixon of CT; niece, Samantha D. Eldridge of MD; Son-In-Love, Ian J. Gainor and Daughter-In-Love, Rachel J. Gainor, both of Alexandria, VA; and grandchildren, Elijah J. Gainor and Abigail J. Gainor, both of Alexandria, VA. Patricia is also survived by many great-nieces, nephews and a host of other cousins and family members. Patricia was predeceased by her beloved son, Ernest Thurston Gainor II; her parents, Laura Pearson Hopkins and George Hopkins; her brother, George Hopkins, Jr.; and her sister, Carol R. Eldridge.
