Jesse Lee Moore

JESSE LEE MOORE, SR., son of Rufus Moore, Sr. (deceased) and Letha Moore Williams, (deceased), was born on May 6, 1944, in Wake Forest, Wake County, North Carolina. He made his transition on December 12, 2024. He was educated at Frederick Douglass High School, in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated in 1963. One of the highlights of his high school career was holding the Maryland State Association record for wrestling. Upon graduation, He was drafted into the United States Marine Corp and served as a Reservist. Jesse completed military service, after which time he gained employment with Bethlehem Steel, as a laborer, for over 30 years. Jesse was a lover of sports and as a side hustle, he began working as a referee for local wrestling matches. His competitive nature led him to become an avid bowler and for years that became a favorite pastime. This activity also put some change in Jesse's pocket, as a participant on a variety of bowling leagues. Jesse was a creative man, also known for recording humorous voicemail messages with both sports and holiday, themes. He was a kind, humble man, affectionately known as "Pop-Pop," by his grandchildren. Pop-pop found appreciation in the simpler things in life. If he was ever in a position to help someone--he would. Jesse's kindness and generous nature extended into the community, as he volunteered to help with food giveaways, and community gardens. Any given day you could find him riding around in his automobile of choice--a Lincoln Towncar. He stayed true to his country roots, enjoying activities such as fishing, hunting, and cooking down home meals. Jesse had a profound memory, recalling past occurrences and re-telling jokes and stories, with embellishments, at times. He was a joyful man who never, or rarely, complained. Jesse loved his family and his various communities, and was well-liked and loved by many. You knew you were in his good graces, if he told you: "I took a liking to ya." Jesse Lee Moore, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: daughters-Lisa Williams, Shannon A. Moore-Shabazz; son-Jesse Moore, Jr.; grandchildren-L'Oreal Hunter, Nailah Phillip, Oyin Moore-Scott, Oluwa Shabazz, Imara Shabarz, great-grand son-Ayende Alvez; son-in-law-Lane Williams; sisters-Shirley Brathwaite, Shawnn Moore; brothers-Oscar Moore, Ronnie Moore, and a host of other relatives and friends.
