Jerry Mondowney

JERRY MONDOWNEY, son of the late William Mondowney and Naomi Trusty, was born on August 6, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life for his eternal home on Thursday, June 6, 2024 after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his cherished daughter Yvette, brothers William and Reginald and sisters Sylvia and Cora. Jerry received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. He was employed by Chevron for many years until retiring in 2008. He was the 7th of ten siblings, and his heart was full of love for all his family and friends. He met and married the love of his life Denise, and from this union three children were born. Jerry was a laid back, quiet man of few words who never complained. He had a generous spirit and a heart of gold. To know him was to love him. He was an avid sports fan, and you would often catch him sitting in his recliner watching football, baseball, or basketball. He was a dedicated Ravens and Orioles fan, and had enough team apparel to start his own shop. He enjoyed spending Football Sundays watching the games, eating good food, and having great conversations and lots of laughs with his wife and children; and in the past two years he loved welcoming his grandson into this family tradition. He was also an information outlet and was forever tuned into the news – from Fayette Street to the Gaza Strip, he could talk endlessly about what was happening across the world and in the City of Baltimore. He loved Westerns, and when he was not tuned into the news, you could often find him watching one of the 100 top Western movies or Western drama series of all time – Gun Smoke, John Wayne, and The Outlaw Josie Wales were among his favorites. A lover of music – from Motown to Doowop, on a nice day you could find him on his deck with his bluetooth speaker and playlist enjoying the sound of the music and the feel of the breeze. But even as we struggle with our sadness, we find solace in the knowledge that he is now in your presence, happy and at peace. Please help us to celebrate his life and to honor his memory by living our lives with joy and purpose. We thank you for the gift of our father’s life and for the love he shared with us.
