Stephen Carter, OFM Cap., Officiating OBITUARY Irean Swanson Penny was born on September 19, 1928 in Pendleton, NC to the late Pritesst and Elzena Hart. She was educated in the public school system of Pendleton, NC and was the class Val Victorian. After finishing high school, she later moved to Washington, DC where she met the late James Penny, married and had two daughters. She attended Nursing School and became a LPN. She believed that education is very important and to never stop learning. When she was in her early 50’s, she went back to school to take pharmacology courses to get certified so she could administer medication and passed the course with an “A” average. She loved to do crossword puzzles and spend time with her family. She worked at Capitol Hill Hospital for 30 years, Carroll Manor Nursing Home for 10 years and Stoddard Baptist Nursing home for 4 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church for over 40 years. She joined the Eucharistic Ministry and the Sodality at Sacred Heart Church where she loved to do her service for our Lord. She is survived by her two daughters Ann Hoard and Jean Wise of Maryland, one brother Pritesst Hart, Jr. of North Carolina, three grandchildren Zachary, Brandon and Ariel of Maryland, one son-in-law William Wise of Maryland, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
