Evan Duckworth

Evan Duckworth was born in Taylorsville, Mississippi on October 2, 1938, to the late Hercules Duckworth and Drewzella Duckworth (nee Rayburn). He departed this life on October 20, 2023. Evan grew up in Mississippi and later moved with his family to Louisiana at a young age. He was educated in Louisiana public schools and graduated from Alto High School. His family than moved to Houston, TX where they planted roots and grew the “Duckworth” Family. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1961 and was later transferred to Fort George G. Meade in Baltimore, MD. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1967 and decided to stay in Maryland. In Maryland, Evan worked at Woolworth’s before starting his career at United Parcel Service (UPS) where he rose through the ranks from warehouse package handler to “Feeder” manager. He had a long career with UPS and retired in 1995. During his time at UPS, he met his wife Chris and shared over 30 years together. Evan became a stepdad to two daughters and step-granddad to four grandsons. During their time together they enjoyed traveling with close friends and family as well as entertaining at their home whenever possible. He was a member of the social club Ninth Dimension where they hosted numerous affairs to support various charitable organizations. Evan was also a member and part of the Men’s Choir at New Antioch Baptist Church. With close fishing buddies “Wallace” and Jimmy Carroll, he would embark on various fishing trips and shared the fruits of his labor with both family and friends. There was always fish on Fridays. Evan was preceded in death by his sister Deloris Farrington, brothers Lester Duckworth, Aster Duckworth, Ather Duckworth and Floyd Duckworth. He is survived by his wife Chris, his sister Carolyn Haywood (Caleph), brother Thomas Duckworth, sisters-in-law Rose Duckworth and Stella Gantt, stepdaughters Tonja Owens and Nicole Bushey (Michael); step-grandsons David Bowles, Xavier Bowles, Matthew Bushey, and Andrew Bushey; seven step great-grandchildren: Elijah, Jordyn, Joshua, Erin-Noel, Adrian, Zaidyn and Jace; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, additional close family and friends.
