Donna May Lewis

Donna May was born in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica on May 10, 1962, to Cleon and Bertel Gordon. She is the last of eight siblings and was raised in a home surrounded by love, respect, hard work, and a strong value on the power of education, resulting with Donna graduating from Hampton High School. Donna was committed to a life of service and so, she pursued her credentials to serve as a teacher in Jamaica. Donna completed her preparation to teach at Saint Joseph's Teachers' College in Kingston, Jamaica and subsequently taught for many years at Williamsfield Seventh-day Adventist School, Bigwoods Primary School and Mountainside Primary School, in St. Elizabeth. Donna's impact is still felt by the many students she taught, who still voice their appreciation for her dedication to their success, against all odds. There is power in the longevity of her impact in that she maintains contact with many of her scholars. She is still treasured by those students. Donna met and married the love of her life, Victor, on July 31, 1989. After many trips to Canada to visit her siblings and to see her new husband, Donna migrated from Jamaica to the United States to be with Victor. They settled in Baltimore, Maryland in 1992. Donna was devoted to her Dolly, who affectionally called her his little Dil-Dil. They built an amazing life together, cherishing their children and travelling frequently to visit with her siblings and other relatives. Victor and Donna honored their vows of “Till death do us part.” While Donna continued to serve as a teacher to her children and to others who needed her no-nonsense guidance and support to ensure success, she also maintained fulltime employment with the Department of Social Services. She dedicated many years to DSS, eventually rising to the position of Family Investment Specialist Supervisor 1, before retiring in 2020. True to her outgoing nature, Donna stayed connected with her friends from DSS, engaging in lively phone conversations and daily text message check-ins that kept those relationships strong. Donna faced a medical emergency on the evening of Wednesday, September 18, 2024, and sadly passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024, following the catastrophic illness. She leaves behind her beloved children —Victor Ryan, Ashley, and D'Ron who will forever cherish her memory. Donna is also deeply mourned by her devoted siblings Delloritta, Novis, Sonia, Alittia, Cadmore, Weston, and Darson. Her mother-in-law, Cecelia Ditta May, along with numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family members, and a wide circle of friends, also grieve her loss. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Cleon and Bertel Gordon, and her loving husband, Victor. Rest in eternal peace, Donna May Lewis until we meet again.
