Clara Louise (Smith) Davis's journey began on May 4, 1947, in the quaint town of Cheraw, South Carolina. She was born into a large family as the daughter of Mary and Dorsey Smith, joining a lively household that eventually included 11 children. Among them were surviving siblings Dorsey, Eddie, Ruby, and Brady. Clara often spoke of her mother, Mary, as an inspiring, self-made woman who managed to run their family farm with unwavering determination. Clara deeply admired her mother’s steadfast strength and how she cultivated their crops and a loving, warm home. The bond they shared was remarkable, and Clara often recounted memories of the time spent together, highlighting the lessons and love her mother imparted. When Clara was in middle school, her family moved to Baltimore, Maryland. This transition led her to Douglass High School, where she pursued her education and developed her sense of style and individuality. Clara had a flair for fashion that set her apart, and this passion manifested in her career as a seamstress for London Fog. She took immense pride in her work, often designing and creating beautiful garments for herself and her loved ones. Clara cherished the moments spent alongside her best friend, Anna, with whom she shared countless adventures. The two would explore the city, listen to music, enjoy lively discussions, and create lasting memories filled with laughter and joy. In time, Clara found love and married James Jake Davis, becoming a dedicated wife and homemaker. Her most incredible pride was in her role as a mother to three wonderful children: Jacqueline, Christian, and Tracy. Clara poured her heart into raising them, warmly and joyfully celebrating their achievements and milestones. She frequently boasted about her children's accomplishments to friends, coworkers, and anyone willing to listen. Clara’s career at the Burlington Coat Factory in Security Square Mall became a significant part of her life. Her exceptional work ethic earned her numerous awards and recognition, underscoring her commitment to her job. The store was not just a workplace for Clara—it was a community hub where she relished visits from family and friends. These encounters allowed her to reconnect, share stories, and maintain the close bonds she treasured. A hallmark of Clara’s personality was her poise and class. Every time she stepped outside her door, she believed in presenting herself well, dressing to impress, and holding her head high. Her confidence and grace left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Clara leaves a legacy that includes three beautiful granddaughters, Crystal, Sydney, and Ashli, who brought her immense joy. She also cherished her grandsons, Nelson and Myoki, and had a special bond with her wonderful nieces, nephews, bonus children, and grandchildren. Clara’s life was filled with love, style, and a deep commitment to family, and she will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
