Chrystal L. Hunter

Chrystal Laron Hunter was born in Harlem, New York on June 15, 1968 to her parents Mildred Pugh and Errol Jackson, Sr. Chrystal was raised with her older brother Errol, Jr and younger sister, Desiree in Wyandanch, NY by her mom and adopted dad James Hunter. As a young girl, Chrystal enjoyed riding her tricycle, playing with her doll babies, and getting toppled by the family’s German shepherd dog Rex that was almost twice her size. The family relocated to Baltimore, MD when Chrystal was 10 years old. Chrystal attended elementary school at All Saints school and subsequently attended Owings Mills Junior/Senior High where she received her high school diploma. She loved school and was equally loved by all her teachers. She was a popular student and enjoyed socializing with friends in the hallways, at various sporting events and showing her school spirit as a member of the cheerleading squad. She became a mom for the first time in 1987 when her daughter Chantez was born. Shortly after Channie was born they relocated to New York for a short time to live with her NYC family. When she returned to Baltimore, she held positions at Ward Machinery in Timonium, MD, and Coppin State University where she also took several business administrations classes. Chrystal became a mother for the second time in 1991, giving birth to her youngest daughter Darnetta. Her girls were the center of her world and as a hard-working single mom she raised them with lots of love and laughter, it’s probably why Darnetta and Channie giggle and smile so much to this day. Like most moms, Chrystal was a mama bear that always looked after her girls, supporting them and being their biggest cheerleader. Becoming a grandmother was a highlight of Chrystal’s life. From the time her oldest grandson, Akari, was born there weren’t many occasions when he wasn’t by her side. She took pride in helping him with reading and writing at a young age and she would take him on trips to amusement parks and even special places like Paisley Park in Minneapolis, MN. When her youngest grandson, Royal, came along he fell right in on the special times with Ma-Ma, as they called her, laughing and being silly. Chrystal, Chrissy, Ronnie, or Ron as she was affectionately known by friends and family will be most remembered for her BIG smile, infectious laugh, and her incredibly big heart. If you had the honor of being in her presence, there was no way you didn’t feel her warmth and love of others. You always felt like you were seen when you were with her. Her ability to make people feel loved and seen was a special part of her personality that she showed as a daughter, sister, mother, grand mom, Chrystal Laron Hunter June 15, 1968 – December 9, 2021 niece, cousin, auntie, and friend. Even strangers in the grocery store experienced the “Chrystal effect”. It wasn’t a rare occasion that she would develop what seemed like a life-long friendship with someone she had just met in the Walmart checkout line! Chrystal’s family was important to her and she took time to build special relationships with her aunts, uncles and cousins in FL, PA, NY, and MD. She had a particularly close relationship with her two nieces Makeda and Destiny. Auntie or Auntie twin as they called her was a relationship that in many ways was more like a mother-daughter relationship because of the way she would look out for them both. Auntie was always ready for a good turn up and you could count on her to be the first on the floor singing the lyrics to a Meek Mill song showing her dance moves to get the party going. Chrystal’s love and zest for life played a big part in her embarking on the journey to land her dream job to become a flight attendant. Chrystal joined the Spirit airlines team in 2017 after completing a rigorous training program in Florida. As a flight attendant, she was able to accomplish two things she loved most, meeting new people, and traveling the world. She enjoyed seeing different parts of the world and when she could, she would take advantage of the opportunity to visit different US cities and destinations outside of the US like, Dubai, Mexico, and Japan. Her travels would always bring her back to Baltimore to reconnect with her best friend Lisa, get her crab cake fix and deplete the ice inventories at every Royal Farm store. In her quiet times when she wasn’t working, spending time with family or traveling the world, Chrystal enjoyed writing, listening to gospel music, and watching HGTV or movies like her favorite “Waiting to Exhale” that inspired a brief relocation to Arizona. Chrystal’s faith in GOD, instilled in her at an early age by her grandmother “Gertie” played a large part in who she was, how she moved through this world and how she treated others. Chrystal was a member of the New Antioch Church in Baltimore, MD and served on several ministries as a parishioner of the church. A free spirit in every way you could image, she lived life on her terms, with no fear and bursting with lots of love, joy and smiles for days and days. An angel on earth, Chrystal was called home to be with GOD on December 9, 2021. She leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy her mother Mildred Blue, her stepdad Larry Blue, daughters Chantez and Darnetta, her grandchildren Akari and Royal, her siblings, Errol, Desiree (Bill), Jonas, Darian, Katara, Maurice, Patrick (Ebony), Kamilah (Terrance), Metaum and Lawrence Jr., and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren, friends, and co-workers. Chrystal was proceeded in death by her father, Errol Jackson Sr, adopted father, James Hunter and grandmother, Gertrude Pugh
